La Tavola dei Briganti - The link with one's roots
Located in Altino, a small town in the Province of Chieti, La Tavola dei Briganti was born in 2013 when the D'Alonzo family decided to reorganize the family farming business, specializing in the cultivation of Altino peppers. our headquarters was previously located in the hamlet of Altino called Mandrelle, a village of stone houses dating back to the nineteenth century. According to a legend, Mandrelle became a refuge for local brigands in search of safe places to hide in order to escape the `` hunt '' of the authorities during the post-unification period. The legend also tells of a mysterious treasure present in the woods near the village, hidden by one of the bands of brigands who took refuge in the place.
The name of the company, La Tavola dei Briganti, is a tribute to this local legend and to the Majella mountain massif, overlooking our valley and which constituted another historic refuge for brigands: it was their custom to engrave their stories and their names on slabs of clear and compact rock. Once found, they were renamed `` brigands' tables' 'and are still known as such today. Biodiversity Each species, regardless of whether it is small or large, plays and plays a specific role in the ecosystem in which it lives and precisely by virtue of its role it helps the ecosystem to maintain its vital balance. A wider variety of species means a wider variety of crops, a greater diversity of species ensures the natural sustainability of all forms of life, a healthy ecosystem is better able to tolerate a disturbance, disease or bad weather, and respond better. to climate change. For these reasons in our small way we have decided to pay a lot of attention to the horticultural and fruit varieties that we grow on our land, trying to recover many native species of our territory, some almost completely disappeared now: the yellow Sangro tomato, the Altino pepper, the little devil of Abruzzo, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law beans, the frozen and flat variety apples, the Intosso, Crognalegno, Gentile and olivastri olive trees, to name a few. Innovation of Tradition “Tradition is successful innovation” O. Wilde.
Once the family business was taken over, we continued to cultivate what our grandparents have always produced: vegetables and fruit (in the flat lands), olive trees in the rolling hills. We have innovated cultivation techniques, reconverted the entire company following the principle of environmental sustainability (organic and integrated pest management), reintroduced and replanted new orchards and above all we have created an artisan laboratory in which we transform what we grow. By innovating the processing and conservation techniques, the recipes of our grandmothers have been recovered which, seasoned with a pinch of modernity, have led us today to produce our excellences: in oil, creams, jams, Altino pepper. it represents a right combination of traditional methods and technology. Our mission is to offer genuine and authentically local products.
