Montepulciano, known without doubt to have been present in Abruzzo since the mid 1700s, is now considered one of Italy’s great black autochthonous vines and is used to make Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC. The leading edge of regional winemaking, in other words in the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane elected DOCG with the 2003 vintage, also comes from the Province of Teramo.

Red Montepulciano d’Abruzzo pleases with its suppleness just 8-10 months after harvest but it will evolve, with time, into a complex wine, as it is perfect for ageing, often even reaching ten-year vintages. It retains intensity of colour, ranging from ruby to garnet, with aromas that conjure up morello cherries and small black berry fruits, embraced by hints of spice and a resolute taste with a note of tannin if consumed when young, but all-embracing and velvety with a liquorice and chocolate finish in older wines.
