Frentana Winery, 60 Years of History
In 2018 the Winery celebrated the 60th anniversary of the cooperative to remember the road traveled but above all to project itself towards the new challenges of the future.
Cantina Frentana is a cooperative society in which 500 winegrowers participate, mainly small family businesses, who cultivate about 1000 hectares of vineyards on the Frentana hills: a strip of territory that extends between the last slopes of the Majella and the magnificent Costa dei Trabocchi, in the south of Abruzzo. A land of vineyards and olive groves, crossed by streams that flow between wooded valleys. The generous calcareous soil, the gentle alternation of sea and land breezes, the mitigating action of the sea enhance the vocation of this territory to a high quality viticulture, focused almost entirely on native vines. A vocation listened to and collected by expert winemakers, aware that the quality of the wine depends above all on the quality of the fruit.
Cantina Frentana was founded as a cooperative company in 1958 by a group of “pioneering” winemakers led by the mayor Francesco D'Agostino, while 1960 is the first harvest. Since then the company has continuously grown in size, number of members and turnover, going through more favorable and other more difficult moments, but always with the determination to fulfill its mission, to become one of the most important cooperatives in central-southern Italy.
