All Cantina Dora Sarchese estates are located in the province of Chieti where, every year, about three million quintals are produced of wine grapes, the second of the Italian provinces with the greatest wine production. It alone accounts for over 80% of regional production. In the province of Chieti two of the three DOCs of Abruzzo are produced: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (an important red) and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (a white with a strong personality). Both deserve special attention because they reach heights of indisputable excellence.
Our history is written every day by our hands. Don Mimì, our great progenitor, has handed down passion and skills to an entire family that today runs a company that is the reflection of a deep and ancient bond with the territory and its products. Cantina Dora Sarchese was born in the Eighties from the entrepreneurial art of Domenico D'Auria, known as Mimì, patriarch of the winery. Great forefather, he handed down passion and skills to an entire family that today carries on an activity that is the reflection of a deep and ancient bond with the territory and its products. Having passed away in 2002, a line of wines was dedicated to him, a range that speaks of territorial identity and simplicity, rightly called Mimì. Today, his wife Dora, to whom Mimì dedicated the cellar, it is the queen of the cuisine of “Casa Dora”, the part of the company dedicated to catering and food and wine tourism. The management of the winery is instead entrusted to his son Nicola D'Auria, National President of the Wine Tourism Movement and active promoter of initiatives that give prestige to the Abruzzo wine sector. Renovated and enlarged in 2007, Cantina Dora Sarchese today represents one of the most welcoming and innovative spaces in the regional wine production landscape.
The company produces wines only from native Abruzzo vines such as Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Cococciola; since the early 90s, it has distinguished itself for being among the first wineries to produce Classic Method Sparkling Wines from Abruzzo vines and, in particular, the first ever to make a Spumante Metodo Classico Rosé with a Montepulciano D'Abruzzo base. Cantina Dora Sarchese, designed by the renowned architect Rocco Valentini, is conceived as a versatile space in which the production cycle and food and wine moments coexist, an ideal place for birthday parties, graduation and other small ceremonies. It is also a space for innovation in the field of eno-tourist hospitality: it hosts, in fact, the Fountain of Wine along the Camino di San Tommaso, inaugurated in 2016 and which over the years has become a real "Monument to Montepulciano d ' Abruzzo ”visited by tens of thousands of wine tourists, as well as by pilgrims intent on taking the famous walking route that connects the cities of Rome and Ortona.
Another very successful project is that of NITAE: a vineyard of 1000 trees arranged in the shape of a wind rose where a vine of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo over 100 years old is cultivated which is harvested by hand, transferred to an ancient stone basin and pressed with their feet by customers and friends of the cellar during a big party that every year is organized in the company on the first Sunday of October. The wine produced, the NITAE in fact, is kept in a ceramic casket made by a famous Abruzzo artist, which can only be purchased by visiting the cellar.
