Azienda Agricola Dino Illuminati - Where ancient and modern meet
Azienda Agricola Dino Illuminati - Since 1890, the art of producing wine The wisdom of wine, fruit of the earth and work. A corner of Abruzzo where the hills touch the sea. Here, for more than a hundred years, the Illuminati family has been creating their own wine. A passion that is renewed from generation to generation.
Our rows are located in Controguerra, in the heart of the Teramo hills, a sunny land overlooking the blue of the Adriatic sea under the majestic presence of the Gran Sasso. Located at 320 meters above sea level, it has a microclimate with natural characteristics that make the cultivated grapes a real treasure of aromas and flavors. The slope of the hill towards the sea favors a particular exposure and ventilation that allows the grapes to ripen in the best possible way, enhancing their specific characteristics.
Our philosophy consists in carefully taking care of every phase of the supply chain, selecting the grapes, the territory and the quality, respecting the seasons and the product. The production of Illuminati wines is based on a vineyard area of over 130 hectares, all belonging to the Controguerra DOC and DOCG Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo areas. Vineyards with special grapes that generate wines of rare quality, obtained thanks to the dedication and commitment of skilled hands who take care of this rich land and know the art of winemaking. From the vineyards to the cellar, our research work continues: from soils with a high vitivinicultural potential, to the analysis of the soil, to the fermentation method and temperatures, up to modern vinification. The three internal caves are thermo-conditioned and used for sparkling wine with the classic method, for aging in Slavonian oak barrels, barriques and for refining in the bottle. From an oenological point of view, in the experimentation fermentations are applied at different temperatures, malolactic, soft and not very traumatic pressing for the grapes, aging in cask and refinement in the bottle to obtain fine wines.
We immediately chose a 'symbiotic' relationship with our land. All processes are carried out with respect for tradition. Many operations in the vineyard are still carried out manually, significantly reducing the use of phytosanitary treatments. The work has made us understand that if the soil is healthy, it will be able to respond spontaneously to adversity and give us high quality fruit.
