Peppermint essential oil

The essence is extracted by steam distillation from the flowering plant. The essential oil, due to menthol, is a sensitizer so it is not recommended for use for small children (under six years old) and people suffering from hay fever.

Used in the diffuser it has a "cooling" effect on the mind as it helps concentration. Its aroma has a warming and stimulating effect on the digestive system, above all it stimulates the production of bile. It is a valuable aid to combat nausea, even with dry inhalation (one drop on a handkerchief and inhale).

It has antiseptic and anti-catarrhal properties, therefore it is an excellent expectorant and mucolytic; recommended in sinusitis. On the skin it causes an initial vasoconstriction, followed by a vasodilation, with a rubefacient effect useful in neuralgic pains from inflammation: sciatica, arthritis, muscle pains such as tears, cramps.

Its refreshing and invigorating effect makes it an excellent summer oil to be rubbed on swollen and hot legs and feet; excellent antiseptic and antifungal, it helps for itchy manifestations such as eczema and psoriasis and to relieve itching caused by an insect bite. In any case, the dosages must be low as mint is very irritating to the mucous membranes.

On the hair, due to the effect on microcirculation and the ability to stimulate tissue oxygenation, it is recommended for baldness. In the presence of a particularly sensitive scalp, use in low doses, mixing it with an essential oil "buffer" such as lavender or chamomile.
