Cantina Miglianico - We born from an intuition of a parish priest and the audacity of a handful of farmers.
Abruzzo is a land of vineyards, cultivated between the sea and the mountains. From this land the wine takes its character and accents, and from our hands the history. It is the mitigating effectiveness of the sea which, combined with the hilly characteristics, allows to produce an interesting variety of wines. Starting from the vineyards near the sea, where the cultivation of Trebbiani is favored, we climb the first hills, from which interesting Pecorini emerge, until we reach the foothills, dedicated to Montepulciano. Then, here is the work of the oenologist and the technical measures conclude a journey that leads to the best Abruzzo wines.
In 1961 Don Vincenzo Pizzica understood that, in order to avoid the underestimation of the local wine by the great producers, it was necessary to form a cooperative. A few years later, in 1966, associate farmers began producing the first bottles. Today we are about 300 winegrowers and we manage over 500 hectares of vineyards in the province of Chieti. The grapes are followed, checked and harvested at the optimal time. The path continues with the help of advanced winemaking technologies. The structure and plants of the Miglianico Winery are able to receive and vinify over 110,000 quintals of grapes, sorted into five crushing and pressing lines. But the real charm of a winery lies in the barrel room and the Miglianico cooperative is no exception: 200 barriques and 60 barrels amaze the visitor and envelop him with the various types of wood.
The point of reference always remains the enhancement of the vines, such as the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOP, who have made the history of Abruzzo winemaking and who have finally managed to obtain the esteem and interest of national and foreign markets. But once again the real revelation is represented by the surprising Pecorino, which can also be enjoyed alone and is increasingly trendy.
