Il Feuduccio di Santa Maria D'Orni

The estate Il Feuduccio di Santa Maria d'Orni is in Orsogna, in the heart of the Annunziata Territorial Park, in a splendid hilly area with an ancient wine vocation that extends from the slopes of Mount Majella to the Adriatic Sea. Feuduccio wines are the result of this uncontaminated territory and a unique microclimate, and with their peculiarities they tell it intensely. Returning here, to his homeland, was the dream that accompanied Gaetano Lamaletto and his wife Maria, as they left Abruzzo to seek their fortune in Venezuela. And so, forty years later, Gaetano created Il Feuduccio: an encounter between generations, today proudly carried forward by his son Camillo and his nephew Gaetano. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, the suggestive cellar is set in the rock and is divided into five levels. They are born here, in a combination of simplicity and accuracy, wines intended to satisfy the most diverse palates, all over the world.

Our agronomic management is composed of specialized technicians, but above all by all those people who believe in our qualitative project, to whom they dedicate themselves with passion and commitment. The thinning carried out at veraison, 40-50 days before harvest, leads us to a further selection of the bunches in order to obtain DOC and ITG wines of excellent quality both red and white. Il Feuduccio introduced innovative farming systems, replacing them with the traditional ones: the first agronomic interventions for the improvement of the company were aimed at replacing the existing vineyards trained in awnings, then replanting exclusively rows with the bidirectional and mono-directional spurred cordon system, with a significant reduction in production compared to the previous training system. In fact, the number of vines per hectare ranges from 3,630 to 5,000 units, with a yield ranging from 50 to 60 quintals per hectare.

The grape harvest is done by hand: the grape harvesters remove the bunches and deposit them in perforated boxes, taking care not to crush the grapes. The crates full of grapes are transported and manually poured onto a sorting belt to complete the quality control. The processing of the grapes, the fermentation of the must, the conservation and the aging of the wine take place in underground rooms at a level of -14 meters. The aging of the wine takes place in French oak barrels and barriques for a period that varies between twelve and eighteen months, and the average life of a barriques is three years. Each year they are renewed by 30%. A series of artistic niches have been created for the refinement in the bottle; all these environments are under constant control of temperature, humidity and air exchange.
