Ciccio Zaccagnini Farm - In the heart of Bolognano

The Zaccagnini winery is now a historic wine-making reality in the Abruzzo hinterland, which has been able to win positive opinions over time both inside and outside the national borders. It all began in the small town of Bolognano in the Pozzo district, in the province of Pescara, back in 1978 by the Zaccagnini family. The motto pursued here, since the first harvests, is that of 'total quality, from the bunch to the glass', thanks to which this family-run winery has managed to grow rapidly and steadily.

Today it has 300 hectares of vineyards, with an annual production that reaches peaks of 3 million bottles; despite these large and considerable numbers, Marcello Zaccagnini tries to take care of and control each phase of production with precision. The cultivated varieties are the classic ones of the Abruzzo area, with Pecorino and Passerina playing the leading role as regards the white grape varieties, followed by the Abruzzese Trebbiano; for the red grape varieties, Montepulciano certainly plays the lion's share in the vineyard, followed by Cabernet Franc and Cannonau.

Conventional agriculture is adopted in the vineyard, but integrated pest management is practiced at the same time. All the vinifications in the cellar are carried out first in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks and then continue, especially for the reds, in wooden barrels or barriques. Thanks to the agronomic and oenological consultancy of Concezio Marulli, of which the Zaccagnini winery has always used, the house labels are positioned year after year, among the most shining and brilliant examples of the type. The Zaccagnini cellars have always combined winemaking with art, with the belief that wine and artistic work represent two equally eternal forms of pleasure, capable of exposing the secrets of life.
