Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Dop Riserva "Teate" - Ferzo
Ferzo is a piece of fabric sewn together with other pieces to form a large sail. The combination of the most suitable wine-growing areas in Abruzzo gives life to "Ferzo", a single large label that contains the best of the region's native vines.
Production area: The TEATE sub-area encompasses the geographical area made up of about one third of the entire province of Chieti, and consists of a wide and extended strip of the coastal hill that goes from the Foro river (municipality of Francavilla) to the Trigno river ( municipality of Vasto), followed by the internal hill and finally by the piedmont one that reaches the north-western part up to the foot of the Maiella.
Soil characteristics: With a sandy-clayey structure, generally loose, with variable thickness in relation to the slope and exposure. The vocation of these lands is determined by the hilly position of the vineyards, by the excellent exposure, and by the considerable temperature variations between day and night, favored by the proximity of the Maiella massif, associated with good ventilation (sea and mountain breezes) and by the absence of moisture stagnation in the soil. All this favors the optimal conditions for the expression of the peculiar vegetative-productive characteristics of the Montepulciano grape, giving rise to wines with intense and characterized aromas, difficult to replicate in other areas.
Plant density: For row farms no less than 2,500 plants per hectare. For pergola systems not less than 1600 plants per hectare.
Grapes: The grapes must be obtained only from vineyards located on land located in hilly or plateau areas whose altitude does not exceed 500 meters above sea level and exceptionally 600 meters for those facing south.
Vinification: The harvested grapes are traditionally vinified with a long maceration of the skins at a controlled temperature. After racking after malolactic fermentation, the wine decants in stainless steel tanks. It ages in wooden barrels to enhance its organoleptic characteristics.
Color: Intense red color with light violet reflections.
Nose: Elegant bouquet in which hints of black cherry and wild berries are combined with notes of black pepper, cocoa and balsamic aromas.
Taste: Full, harmonious, the typical tannins of Montepulciano stand out on the palate, balanced by a complex structure, fleshiness and softness. Aftertaste with nuances of jam and good persistence.
Pairings: Important first courses based on mushrooms and truffles. Ideal with grilled lamb, kebabs, game, salami appetizers and aged cheeses.
Grapes: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (native vine)
Refinement: Aging / refinement not less than twenty-one months of which at least 10 in wooden containers.
