Codice Citra - Wines, faces, values

Founded in 1973, Codice Citra is the main wine-making reality in Abruzzo, it brings together nine wineries with proven experience, all located in the province of Chieti, in an area with extraordinary potential, the historic cradle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Chieti is, in fact, the second Italian province and by far the first in Abruzzo for the quantity of grapes harvested. Since its foundation, Codice Citra has the mission of bringing together the most important wineries in the province of Chieti to select, control and enhance the best wine production from a single point of view: The strong link with the territory is evident from the name , which the founding members wanted to give to the company in 1973.

The word Citra, in fact, is a Latin adverb, name of one of the two Principalities in which Abruzzo was divided in the geographical maps of the Bourbon Kingdom and the Papal State, dating back to the 18th century, before the unification of Italy. The name Citra, identifying the area in which the nine associated cooperatives are located, is full of meanings: it expresses the strong bond with the territory and refers to an ancient winemaking knowledge that in the Chieti area is lost in the mists of time. All the production processes of the Citra Code are certified: ISO22000 and ISO9001: 2008, in addition to the BRC and IFS certifications, which are fundamental in terms of relations with European and international large-scale retailers.
